The course consists of warm-up, technique, rhythmology as well as short choreographic blocks. We are going to work on a 4- or 12-beat flamenco style and create a traditional flamenco dance to recorded music or guitar and song. It is recommended to bring flamenco or high-heel shoes, comfortable clothes and a skirt.
Course leader, Souzana Volioti, was born in Veria, Greece. She started with rhythmic gymnastics at the age of four. She continued with folk and contemporary dance participating in group performances and dance festivals. She first gets in touch with flamenco in 2008 when she starts studying with Gabriela Gutarra at Flamenco Center in Stockholm, Sweden. Within a few years she gives her first performances. Her love for flamenco finally brings her to Sevilla in 2014 where she studies at Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco, among other schools, and interacts with well-known flamenco artists such as Milagros Menjibar, Javier Barón, Úrsula López, Luisa Palicio, Leonor Leal, etc. Her creative and choreographic work can be seen in a number of productions, such as Tauromagia (2017), Pájaro (2020), Havets Klockor (2022). Apart from Sweden where she lives today managing her own studio, she has been artistically active with performances and seminars also in Finland, Greece and Spain. Besides her dance education, Souzana has a music teacher degree in classical guitar and a master degree in computer science.
