The Flamenco Fredag spring-season ends with a major focus on music, this time signed Afra Rubino. The Midnight Andalusians is a concert with flamenco guitar and string quartet where flamenco rhythms are mixed with wild improvisations, past becomes present in swinging baroque tones and north becomes south when the midnight sun meets the Andalusian night. An ensemble with some of Sweden’s absolute top musicians takes the stage for an extraordinary concert experience. It gets especially exciting in the second set when the ensemble meets the house band in a tablao set!

The ensemble asks itself the question: What exactly is a Fandango? Maybe that’s the meaning of life itself! For “he who doesn’t dance, he falls forward”, as the Spanish satirical newspaper El Zurriago wrote in 1821. With those slogans, the ensemble wants to make the whole room sway in 12-beat like flamenco has done for many hundreds of years!

Flamenco guitarist Afra Rubino is the initiator of The Midnight Andalusians and acts as conductor and composer. The project has been developed together with violinists Sofia Högstadius and Sara Nilsson, viola player Agnes Högberg and cellist Emma Augustsson.
The music is for those who love traditional music of all kinds, for those who love classical music, for those who love cultural clashes and cultural hugs and those who want to experience flamenco in a completely unique way.
